American Woodworker This woodworking magazine includes a "Woodworker's Library" archive of furniture making plans, plus product reviews, tool tests, shop solutions, buyer's guides, and workshop tips. Furniture Plans It is difficult to find anyone giving away furniture plans online (although many sell them). These free furniture plans, for computer desks and other simple projects, are from Woodware Design. Fine Woodworking Fine Woodworking Online has tips and articles on tools, techniques, materials, and projects. This link goes to the tool articles index. Do It Yourself.com Fiberglass Working Tutorials "Polyester Plug and Mold Building" and "Fiberglassing with Pro-Glas Epoxy" are two online tutorials that serve as a good intro to working with fiberglass and resin from Fiberlay, a fiberglass specialty shop. Plastics Molding Tutorial "Tutorial on Polymer Composite Molding", from Michigan State U., is a bit dry and contains no illustrations, but gives a good description of liquid, injection, and compression molding of plastics, and the relative advantages of various techniques and materials. Composites Search Engine "The largest database of composite industry related web sites on the internet". Materials Joining Links An annotated list of links from The Welding Institute, covering all types of materials joining technology. The Welding Journal A partially-online journal from the American Welding Society (AWS), founded in 1919. Some articles are free online, and you can search the article index and order photocopies from past issues back to 1922. Welding News Recent news from The Welding Institute, covering not only welding, but also other forms of materials joining technology. Flamecutting Intro Torchcutter.com provides this intoductory overview of flamecutting. Flamecutting, oxygen cutting or burning, means to burn a slot in metal using small gas torches or large multi-torch machines. It is an economical method of cutting steel, much faster than any sawing or machining process, but the edges of finished parts are not as fine. Ron Reill's Forge Page More than just a blacksmith, geologist Ron Reill also designs and builds his own forges and burners. This and other aspects of metalworking are described here, along with links and access to the Blacksmith's Web Ring. Metal Plating & Finishing Finishing.com is "the home page of the finishing industry". Features include how to get started in metal finishing, how to do electroplating demos for science class, and how to plate non-metallic things. Micromechanical Machining This site from Louisiana Tech includes basic tutorials on micromachining using diamond tools, lasers, and ion beams. IHS Industrial Parts DB A searchable database of over 58 million mechanical parts. Stonework How-To This site, although loosely organized, covers how to do the major varieties of stonework yourself, with additional information on tools, cutting, and fireplaces. LearningStone.net "Sculpture, carving, workshops, quarries, geology, landscape, ...Learning Stone fosters mutual interests, understanding and contacts amongst people who work with stone". The site includes the StoneHoo links directory, a very comprehensive list of stone-related Internet sites. Glassblowing Plus Mike Firth's "Hot Glass Bits" is a comprehensive site that covers glassblowing and most other things you might want to do with glass. Highlights include a description of a glassblowing session and a glossary of tools and equipment and where to get them. Stained Glass Soldering "Cole Sonafrank's Stained Glass Soldering Tips Page" describes what it takes to learn good stained glass soldering (practice makes perfect).
